How it works

Three steps, no layers panel required

  1. 01

Open a photo or a scan

Drop in a phone picture, a camera file or a scan of an old print. Your original stays untouched; DirtAI works on a copy.

  2. 02

    Brush over the dirt

Paint over dust specks, scratches, stains, a stray tourist or a power line. Use a small brush for detail, a big one for blotches.

  3. 03

    Let AI fill it in

The model reconstructs what was underneath from the surrounding texture, grain and light. Compare before and after, refine, export.

What it cleans

Every kind of dirt a photo collects

From a speck on the scanner glass to a stranger in the frame, the same brush handles it.

  • A.Dust and speck removal

Clears the pepper of white and black dots that scanners and dirty sensors leave behind, without smearing fine grain.

  • B.Scratch and crease repair

Long hairline scratches, fold lines and cracked emulsion are filled along their length so the repair follows the image, not a blur.

  • C.Stains and spots

Water marks, tape residue, foxing and coffee rings are toned back so faces and skies read cleanly again.

  • D.Object and people removal

Brush out photobombers, bins, signs or cables. The background is rebuilt to match perspective and lighting.

  • E.Background cleanup

Tidy cluttered backdrops behind portraits and product shots without cutting out or replacing the scene.

  • F.Non-destructive by design

Every edit is a layer on a copy. Toggle before and after, undo any stroke, and keep the original file as it was.

Use cases

Made for the photos you can't reshoot

Family archives
Shoebox prints, albums and slides with decades of dust, fingerprints and creases.
Inherited damage
Water-stained or torn photos where only one copy of a face survives.
Camera sensor dust
The same dark blob in the sky across a whole day of shooting at f/11.
Travel photos
Landmarks without the crowd, the scaffolding or the stranger's elbow.
Listings and products
Clean surfaces and plain backgrounds for shop, rental and marketplace photos.

An honest note

What AI cleanup can't do

  • It can't recover detail that was never captured. Filled areas are informed guesses.
  • It can't fix a badly blurred or out-of-focus original into a sharp one honestly.
  • It shouldn't quietly rewrite history. For family records, keep the untouched scan alongside the cleaned copy.

FAQ

Questions, answered plainly

Is DirtAI available now?

Not yet. DirtAI is in development and launching soon. There is no sign-up form on this site; check back here for the launch. In the meantime, our guides cover scanning, manual cleanup and archiving.

Will it change my original photo?

No. DirtAI is designed to work on a copy, with every brush stroke kept as a reversible edit. Your original file stays exactly as you uploaded it.

Can AI restore parts of a photo that are completely missing?

It can fill missing areas with plausible detail drawn from the surrounding image, which works well for skies, walls, grass and fabric. For a missing eye or a torn-off face, any fill is a reconstruction, not a recovery, and we'll label it that way.

What resolution should I scan old prints at?

For most prints, 600 DPI is a good default; use 1200 DPI for small prints you might enlarge. Our scanning guide walks through DPI, cleaning and file formats in detail.

Does it colorize black-and-white photos?

Cleanup and repair come first. Colorization is a different problem: AI guesses colors that were never recorded. We've written about what it can and can't do before deciding how to offer it.

What happens to the photos I upload?

The product isn't live, so nothing is collected today. When it launches, we'll publish a clear privacy policy covering storage and deletion before anyone uploads a single photo.
